However, the US won’t be receiving the Tasman.

Even though Kia has already decided against introducing the controversial Tasman When heading to the United States, we're still opting for a truck. However, this won’t be your typical gas or diesel-powered model; instead, it’s going to be an all-electric pickup hitting North American markets. This significant reveal took place during the 2025 Kia CEO Investor Day event where initial information about the vehicle was shared. Designed with versatility in mind, it will utilize a brand-new EV platform aimed at serving both city driving and off-road adventures.

By reading into her statements, Kia seems to imply that the new truck will not go up against the Ford F-150 in the full-size category. Instead, it’s expected to be more compact, possibly similar in size to a Ranger CEO Ho Sung Song mentioned last week at the Seoul Mobility Show that the U.S.-bound truck will compete in the midsize market against vehicles like the Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator. He also dismissed speculations regarding the introduction of the Tasman into North America.

Others may recall that an electric truck mule was seen in California about a year back. This prototype pickup truck was clearly an experimental model as it utilized components from various current production vehicles. It seemed to incorporate the EV9’s headlamps and side mirrors, combined with the rear lights of the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

Regarding the Tasman, it will only be launched in South Korea, Australia, and various emerging markets. Kia aims for an annual sales target of 80,000 units and seeks to capture a six percent market share.
